The Syntec VitMan Vitrectomy System
The Syntec VitMan, a high performance vitrectomy system, is loaded with industry
firsts. It has unsurpassed vacuum response, yet is fully self contained. The
compact packaging and lack of a compressed air tank allow this system to be fully
portable. The Syntec VitMan is designed to operate on any commonly available power
in the world. Its universal input power supply automatically compensates for
different wall voltages.
Aspiration System
At the heart of any ophthalmic surgery system lies the aspiration system. The Syntec
VitMan uses a rocking piston vacuum pump to generate a vacuum. The dual
chamber polycarbonate aspiration cassette is an integral part of the sophisticated
pneumatic system that is used to control the aspiration delivered. The result is a
high speed vacuum response that outperforms even venturi based systems. In addition,
a gentle reflux function may be activated by footpedal control. This allows release
of inadvertently trapped tissue.
TriplePort Light Source
The Syntec VitMans TriplePort light source features three high intensity
outputs. It provides a backup lamp automatically, and records the number of hours a
lamp has been used. Output dimming is accomplished with no change in the color
temperature or output aperture of the light.
Vitrector Drive
The Syntec VitMan provides a pneumatic vitrector drive output capable of unprecedented
speeds. The system has performed surgery, with Syntec vitrectors, at 2000 cpm.
Pulsation can be adjusted to a single cut. Cutting without aspiration is also
possible. Exquisite control over instrument function is achieved.
Air Exchange
The Syntec VitMan uses a separate air pump for its air exchange function. This, in
combination with dual pressure sensors, positive output cutoff valve, and both hardware
and software watchdogs means that the output pressure stays where its supposed
to. In addition, user defined pressure alarms are provided.
Optional Ultrasound
Ultrasonic lens fragmentation is an option on the Syntec VitMan. The system is
capable of driving the lightweight titanium handpiece in either linear or fixed power
modes. Pulsed output is also selectable. Although the nominal output frequency
is 40 kHz, the handpiece is continuously tuned to maintain optimal power delivery.
Footpedal
As with any system, the footpedal control is a critical component of system function
because precise control over system operation depends on the footpedal.
Strategically located detents give positive side and center feedback to the operator. Linear input is firm enough for control, but not so firm as to be tiring. Both linear and side pivots are ergonomically located to avoid ankle strain. Of course, the footpedal is fully programmable via the front panel buttons or the disk drive.
Multiple Surgeon Settings
Multiple surgeon capability makes the Syntec VitMan more versatile. Up to 12
different surgeons preferences can be stored on the system simultaneously.
Defaults can be adjusted and stored to shorten set-up time and avoid mistakes in the
operating room.
Floppy Disk Drive
A 3 1/2" floppy disk drive allows the Syntec VitMan to provide a new level of service
to its users. It can record system function during surgery. Critical system
parameters can be recorded in real time for later review on an IBM compatible
computer. It can also be used for diagnostics and operating software updates.
User preferences can be configured using the disk drive, without adjusting via the console
buttons.
Warranty
The Syntec VitMan is covered by a one year manufacturers warranty for parts and
labor.
